Ashley Williams: rumoured to be heading to the Emirates (pic: premierleagueowl.com)
Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins has admitted that they have not received any contact from any club about a possible move away from the Liberty stadium for club captain Ashley Williams.
Arsenal had been linked with a move for the defender for around £10 million, a deal which would was likely to rival Everton’s. The Telegraph reports that Williams is ‘ready’ to let his club know he wants to leave Swansea and join Arsenal. They also claim that Arsenal are waiting to see if defender Laurent Koscielny stays at the London, as to whether they make a bid for Williams.
However, the Swansea chairman has denied speculation of Williams moving away from the club this summer. “ While there seems to be constant speculation about Ashley Williams, I can honestly say that I have not had one call from anybody about him” admitted Jenkins. Jenkins (whilst speaking to Sky Sports) also claimed “There have been all sorts of stories in the press about what is happening with Ash but I have never heard anything from anyone”.
Williams was pivotal in Swansea’s mid table league position last season as captain and has played over 200 games for the Welsh club since moving from Stockport County in 2008.
